Blackburn Elementary students support cancer awareness in Newton

The students and faculty of Blackburn Elementary made it their mission in October to take a stand against breast cancer by raising awareness and money for the Susan G. Komen foundation.

It was a personal issue for Blackburn teacher Kristi Carpenter, who organized the event.

“I lost my sister (Melody Booker Wilkins) last year to breast cancer,” Carpenter said. “I wanted to do something to give back.”
