Retired Hickory educator enjoys helping others

Sallie Johnson has had the education bug in her family for generations.

“Education was lifted up as the highest good in our house. I was very fortunate to be born into a family like that,” Johnson said in a recent interview at her home near downtown Hickory.

The retired Hickory High School teacher just completed her final Hickory Public Schools Board of Education meeting in December, and is stepping down after serving eight years on the board.
