Cops adopted by Maiden second-graders gather together

Police officers want students to know the man in uniform is here to help.

Officer Mark Baker with the Maiden Police Department says that’s why officers take part in the ‘Adopt-a-Cop’ program.  Baker said the program is in its third year, and it allows Maiden police officers to be “adopted” by a second-grade class at Maiden Elementary School for a school year.

Officers and students celebrated their partnership with a picnic. During the event, students were able to try on police gear, sit at the wheel of police vehicles and talk with their adopted police officer.
