Clyde Campbell students learn value of compassion in Hickory

Sometimes the best way to learn is by doing something.

This past year, the North Carolina General Assembly required local boards of education to develop and implement character education.

The instruction is to be incorporated into the standard curriculum and addresses eight different traits, according to House Bill 135.

For the fifth-grade students at Clyde Campbell Elementary, December was the perfect time to learn about one of those traits – kindness. They organized the “Campbell Cougars Caps for Cancer” project, knitting caps for cancer patients.
